Cargo Shorts

My mom reminded me the other day that when I was a kid all I wanted to be when I grew up was a National Geographic photographer.  It had a little to do with the fact that I enjoyed photography (though I don't think I was ever very good at it), but more to do with the shorts.
Every picture I saw of those guys they were in the jungle wearing khaki cargo shorts.  As a kid in the eighties I remember that the shorts were a little shorter than I was comfortable with.  Fortunately style caught up with my shame and my pasty white thighs and by the time I was an adult shorts were a comfortable knee length.
Well, as the length of men's shorts waxed, my interest in wearing them professionally waned.  If you ask me what my profession is today I'll tell you I'm a student.  The reality is, I'm a stay at home dad.  It's not what I imagined I would be doing at this point in my life, but I never take for granted how fortunate I am to have the time with my kids that I do.
The other day I realized that perfect uniform for the stay at home dad on the go, is cargo shorts.
My career is heading in a direction surprisingly similar to the one I imagined as a child.  But for now I'm happy enough just wearing the shorts.
